Snapping Turtles A Big Pest

May 19, 2013 Tobit Farm Fun

Most people have heard of snapping turtles before, but never really had to deal with them. Well, the time has come for me to say the snapping turtles can be a huge pest. For me, the snapping turtle was not a problem until he started to keep the ducks out of the pond and eat their eggs. However, while we are trying to catch him now to relocate him, he has decided the fishing line we are using, a fifty pound test line, is not strong enough as the first time we caught him he bit the line in two.

This is an ongoing battle, but we will keep you updated as we find out more information. The one thing we do know is this snapping turtle is a big one. Hopefully we can get him out of our pond. I know the ducks would really like to get back into their pond and we would love for them to be able to get back in the pond! Then they will finally stop wondering into the creek behind the house. Until the snapping turtle took up residence the ducks would stay on the pond and we never had any bug issues at all.
